The ever versatile ute may be the embodiment of Australian know how. Since Lew Bandt got the Ford '34 coupe ute together, every major auto supplier in Australia has offered a ute body as a supplement to sedan/coupe platforms.
From standard right thru to GS, XR series, Maloo etc, there has always been a model to suit the tradie or recreational consumer.
The Holden one tonner was one of the first modern examples to use a sedan cab/trayback with full chassis. Towards the end of the '70's we started to see this type of vehicle modified with huge rear tyres, chev v8 engines, flash paint, custom interiors etc. Well, it's happening again............
